The passing of a beloved is a heartbreaking time for you and anyone who knew them. Arranging an appointment for euthanasia can be extremely difficult emotionally and may be one of the hardest decisions that owners face. Our team is here to support you and your pet and to ensure that their final moments are peaceful and free from pain.

When is the right time?

Choosing euthanasia is never easy. It is often considered when a pet's quality of life has significantly declined due to age, illness or injury, and when treatment can no longer provide comfort or a good quality of life.

If you are unsure, our veterinary team will discuss your pet's condition with you, answer your questions honestly, and help you make the decision that is right for your pet and your family.

What Happens During the Appointment?

We aim to make the experience as calm and gentle as possible.

During the appointment:

A veterinary surgeon will confirm your decision and answer any questions you may have.
Most pets receive a sedative beforehand to help them feel relaxed and sleepy. This usually takes around 10-15 minutes to take effect. The vet will usually leave the room during this time so you can have some private time with your pet.
Once you are ready, the vet will administer an injection that allows your pet to pass away peacefully and without pain.
Your pet will quietly lose consciousness before their heart stops.
You are welcome to stay with your pet throughout the procedure, or if you prefer, our team will stay with them on your behalf.

Afterwards, you may spend some private time with them if you wish.

Home visits

For some families, saying goodbye at home feels more comfortable for both themselves and their pet. There are dedicated Veterinary Professionals that specialise in this.

Aftercare and Cremation Options

We offer several aftercare options following your pet's passing.

Burial - You may take your animal home with you for burial

Communal Cremation -Your pet is cremated respectfully alongside other pets. Ashes are not returned.

Individual Cremation -Your pet is cremated individually, and their ashes are returned to you in a presentation casket or urn of your choice.

We work closely with Leyland Pet Crematorium and Burial. This is our default crematorium, but you are able to arrange alternative arrangements with other crematoriums such as Holywell Pet Cemetery if you wish. Please inform our team of your wishes.

Our team will explain the available options and help you choose the one that feels right for you.
